Did I not say on another posting that Bush would declare all things good, and that the good general Petraeus would say,"Of course it is good; let's stay the course."

This is getting ridiculous.

YES: you did say that 7184022. Many of us agree with you. This is the same old "SPIN" and shows that this leadership has not yet gained sufficient understanding of the Iraq situation to deal with it effectively. This is the same as 2003.

The American people believed "MISSION ACCOMPLISHED" in 2003. Later they came to understand it was spin fantasy from an ill led government. American's are not sheep: it will not work again. A predominant majority of Americans see the Bush White House for what it is; AN IMPERIAL PRESIDENCY BENT ON UNDERMINING AMERICAN DEMOCRATIC VALUES AND TRADITIONS.

I wonder if he pulled a "John McCain" by strolling through the streets with hundreds of armed soldiers, vehicles, and choppers decaring that things were peaceful and baghdad neighborhoods had returned to normal. Violin

Sleeping Snooze on Old Coach. Let the real world pass you. May your dreams be sweet and your fantasy world yours alone without interruption. Sleeping Sleeping Sleeping

Last November, many relevant Americans had awakened: they saw that the "emporer wore no clothes" and they voted. I am quite sure these Americans will not be lulled back into sleep by a nude leader as they were in 2006.

Here in Cobb County Georgia I still see an occasional "W" sticker. A year ago there were many, many such emblems. Yellow ribbons are few and far between too. This observation is not a scientific pole; but then Americans are not basicly a scientific people. We are a good people and fight for results, not misguided illusions spun to us by charlatans in Washington. Roll Eyes Smile Wink

When the President says that "everything is going well", we should jump to attention, render a snappy salute and shout, "Yes sir!"

(But that doesn't necessarily mean that you should believe him.)

Hate to burst your bubble heleze, but I have stood my ground alone many times. Those I stood up to gather around me now for advice! I have many former students in Iraq and a newphew about to go. The ones in Iraq tell me that there a lot of good things going on over there. I will believe them before I listen to anything else. I think the American people will suprise you again in 08! Big GrinBest Wishes, The Old Coach.

Now I am not a GENERAL, but if I was leader of the INSURGENTS, I would stop killing & let the INVADERS GO HOME, then I would take over the country. Do you think for one minuet that we would go back to IRAQ? REX

Hey Helez would you have said the same thing to FDR? Franklin, you haven't won the war in a year, so maybe we should stop and let the fascists take over the world? We are fighting radical Islam. Most of the insurgents are not Iraqi, but Saudi, Syrian, Iranian and Afgan. Our guys are drawing them into the fight and just like in Vietnam kicking their a$$ everytime. Only with our pany waist press you wouldn't know it.

If you look back after we kisked *** in WW 2 we still had Japanese ( and some Germans ) killing our guys everyday for the next 3 years. You war critics will always see things in a bad way. If it's not our guys being killed...it's us killing innocent civilians. Let's see..how many service men died on 9-11-2001 at the World Trade Center?....not that many. Even at the Pentagon we had civilians die....so even if we hit miltary targets....innocent people will die.
We have done more in Iraq than most of you will ever know. I have seen the good ( and the bad ) and the good comes out way on top.

Only the dead will see the end to war...Plato

I WONDER WHY MR BUSH DIDNOT FLY INTO BAGDAD. I GUESS ONE MEF AND TWO MEF HAVE LOST ENOUGH MARINES IN AL ANBAR TO MAKE IT SAFE FOR HIM. ITS A SHAME WHEN YOU CANNOT FLY INTO THE CAPITAL OF A COUNTRY AND ITS LEADERS CANNOT GUARANTEE YOUR SAFETY. ONLY ONE GOOD THING ABOUT THIS TRIP, GENERAL PACE GOT THE OPPORTUNITY TO SPEAK WITH HIS MARINES BEFORE HE LEAVES. GET READY FOR THREE MORE YEARS IN IRAQ.

It is not uncommon for a president of the United States, lacking in personal experience, to misinterpret events on the ground. Here, President Bush, a former member of the Texas Air National Guard, makes the mistake of attributing successes in the Anbar province to a recent surge of U.S. forces, when in fact a local shift in thinking is responsible.

quote:
He urged the government to respond to progress in Anbar where violence has abated after Sunni tribal leaders and former insurgents teamed up with U.S. troops to hunt down al-Qaida and other extremists.

For purely political reasons the series of events leading Sunni tribal leaders and former insurgents to team up with U.S. troops has been ommitted. Those paying attention know that this decision was made by Iraqis alone and surprised U.S. forces on the ground in Anbar.

Did the surge have anything to do with their decision? It's possible, but not certain. What is certain is that these Iraqis made a decision that has been beneficial to our mission in Iraq, and that too many Americans are putting politics before planning as they attempt to take advantage of the improvement.

Its a shame the President is once again working from faulty intelligence. Many changes in the way Iraqis are being approached are working. If the President doesn't stop telling fary tales The American people are going to eventually get our troops out of Iraq whether or not it situation is stabilized.

No problem there, very few do believe him any longer.

So, you want our "free-press" to lie? Thank GOD for our free-press, and for the Constitution of the United States. Fact is, the Constitution isn't a smorgasboard where you can pick and choose that that you want to believe. It's all there, and it all must be supported if you want to live free.
