Wow! I put seven people in the active duty Army in the past year and didn't get squat! Now the National Guard will get a nice little sum to place a buddy in the Army....Nice! This is not a good sign for the Army, having to get the National Guard to bail them out of a recruitment crunch.....what message will this send? Confused

How much money is being spend just to get people in the military? $20,000 if you're in boot camp before the end of September. Now the NG gets bonus if you convince someone to "go active". Here's a way to save money, and get all needed people, that's re-institure the MILITARY DRAFT. Sure it won't be popular, but the military should never have to worry about manpower especially when fighting a war.

President Bush and other Leaders of this great country have succeeded in destroying our Military. It started with the retirement of General Tommy Franks. It is a sad sad day in our history. One that will take many a year to fix.

Reinstate the draft. It was good 40 years ago and should do well to get the people they need. It's also fairer, it gets the rich and the poor, winners and losers and gives misdirected individuals purpose for breathing our air and enjoying the freedom we gave them. I say draft, draft and draft so be it. Huwah!!!!!!

It is possible for a child born today to imbibes with his mother's milk the thought that his first duty is to become a defender of his country.

Before the Army goes begging for additional National Guard and Reserve Forces they ought to mobilize the troops who have not mobilized or discharge them. Statistics show that 25% of the active duty force has not been mobilized to Iraq or Afghanistan. Where are these Soldiers and what are they doing??

I think it's a joke. The Army treats the National Guard like second class soldiers. Now they want us to do their recruiting to fill their ranks. What a bunch of crap. I know that everyone is going to say that we're all one Army, that's crap. When we were in Iraq, we got second class treatment all the way around. We weren't taken seriously at all.

What if they (all 5 services) appealed to the ever dwindling sense of patriotism in our country. What I mean is, we all recall the sense of duty that "The Greatest Generation" had (our Parents and Grandparents). Granted it was a different time, but the ONLY flag they waived was the Stars and Stripes. Today, folks are waiving every flag BUT the Stars and Stripes. Personally I think I would get goosebumps if I saw some sort of "remember when.." Pro-America ad featuring black & White scenes from the WWII era while watching the game. I'm not sure if I was able to get my point across in this post but...
When I was in the Corps I remember seeing a poster that said, "If you were accused of being a Marine. Would there be enough evidence to convict you?" Well, "if you were accused of being an American Patriot, would there be enough evidence to convict you?" I think that would be a great closing statement in the ad.
My thoughts.

For anyone who is confused, this is not directed at any AD, Res or vetetan on this board. I understand that virtually every one of us would be guilty as charged!

Yeah....freedom we already had. This war does not threatin our freedom. The day an enemy forces invade this country is the day I sign up to be a soldier. This war is just another Vietnam. My heart goes out to the ones who are fighting right now and sacrificing, but in my point of view it's not a war we should be fighting and not a war for me to go sign up. Maybe back in WW2 when two countries were on the road to global domination. Smile

Very good point. This was brought up some time ago and there was never much said. If this is correct there are a considerable number of people holding down the fort while a few actual do the fighting. Maybe it's time to trim the fat.

I can't help but think that you have very little knowledge of any of the subjects you use to make your point. ie., WWII, Vietnam or "this war." What if there was no war? Would you feel it necessary to give your country 4-8 years of sevice?

Save money? Fat chance! "Selective Service" would add billionz and billyunz to the budget. And many, if not most, draftees make unwilling and semi-competent soldiers.

Plus, I don't think Canada really wants another huge wave of Dodgers.

Thats right sugar plum call on the Guard Wink

Good idea most of us have been active duty for years, so we know the deal.
I can see that the Guard will be hurting for troops next.
Right now if the Guard sends a troop to Basic and AIT if taht troop want's to go active they have to wait six months or longer depending on the "lost paperwork" trail.

How can this be? With all the people waving the flag, cheerleading, and shouting about fighting them over there so we don't have to fight them over here one would think the military wouldn't have any trouble recruiting.

Has it all been a sham? Are the cheerleaders really lieing to us? No, this can't be. It just can't be.

It's the liberal media, that's it, the liberal media. They are spinning this all out of proportion.
