Clinton and McCain are canny politicians who share a similar opinion on the war. Both serve on the Armed Services Committee, and so both know that we definitely *are* going to "start bringing troops home." Because we have to.

By calling for troop return in advance, Clinton is showing that she is foresighted enough to take credit, for what the Joint Chiefs have said has to happen anyway.

I have little doubt that McCain will spin the coming draw-down the same way.

Note that both McCain and Clinton are careful to say that America will remain in Iraq for years to come. Like I said, two canny politicians, with similar views on the war.

Serious enough, one might add, that as the story points out, she could address 3000 VFW convention attendees without them throwing tomatoes. Cool

It was interesting that Clinton was addressing a group of veterans that Gen. Petraeus is also scheduled to address, later today.

I will be *very* surprised if Mrs. Clinton said anything that would go against Gen. Petraeus' recommendations ... she is too clued-in for that.

I agree they are similiar, But Mccain is more trust worthy because his base isnt buying what he is selling. Clinton is trying to win her nomination of her party. I cant stand her, but I can tolerate her more than anyone else in her field.

I try to be nonpartisan, but McCain has a son in combat ... this gives him huge credibility with my wife and me.

With Mccain, you are getting a sincere gentleman withe crediability on these issues, where with Clinton, you can tell she is making a calculation. Example she goes as far left at these forums and carefully says all of these things. But when she goes and visits all these other places and says different things that whats said before. She is not her husband, but she portrays she is. To me thats being fake, and if I can see thru it someone else can too.

She is three-faced... middle, left, and off the scale left (aka: lawyer-left) according to which crowd she is talking to at the time.

"Fake" is irrelevant to me. I will name FDR and Lincoln as two examples of presidents who were devious, but undoubtedly war-winning (one from each party).

IMHO, a devious but war-winning president would be fine.

Also, the situation in Iraq is so complicated, that if you just tell the truth about the mess we're in, people *think* you are being devious!

Without casting any aspersions on Senator McCain's character, anyone who can seriously doubt that he is capable of calculation, looking at his embrace of the President after the 2000 primary campaign, isn't looking very objectively. Cool

He tried with that immigration Reform crap bill, the idea was sound, but that fact the Dems also supported this bill is the under story. They were against a wall being built, anything restricting anything that push them out, and gave a Mexican group, La Raza (the race) a veto over what can be in this bill. When I heard that I was stunned. Clinton has one of there members on her pres staff. I notice that when dems have a debate, if that what you call them, never mentions immigration. Also they want to give them Health benefits and other like in state tuition. These are a few reasons I think the Dems will lose the election. Dems are courting people who dont vote, so that can vote.

It turns out that Sen. Clinton, Sen. McCain, and Gen. Petraeus *all three* addressed the VFW this morning -- Gen. Petreaus by video.

Frankly, I don't see all that much difference in what was *reported* they said ... the core message of all three was that it would be d*mn tough to win, AFAICT.

What I would really like, is a link to Gen. Petraeus' video. So if anyone can find a link, please post it.

I didn't look, but I'd imagine that the VFW will probably have a link in the next couple of days.

Gotta love these polls. I could care less whether any given wannabe-pres pees standing up or sitting down. I will, however, be deserting and leaving the country if this particular one gets elected.
