Great, now we have another computer disaster to make vets sweat. When are the People who running around with this kind of stuff going to get jailed for even possessing this kind of stuff off Post. She should go right to Jail and sit there at least until the sensitive data has been secured and checked to make sure no personel's info is in jeopardy. Then kick her out of the service.

Man oh man. If you have sensitive data, why the heck would you leave it in your car un protected. I mean come on, are you kidding me here. When the first incident happened, and we are were all scared from that, that should of been a sign. A sign to be careful and a lot more intelligent about info. like that. I pray that the drive gets turned in really soon with no side effects. So, what happens with the person who carelessly was responsible for this data?

If a tree falls in a forest and lands on a politician, even if you can't hear the tree or the screams, I'll bet you'd at least hear the applause.

So here is a good quote from the article:

"Officials hope the person who stole the drive - along with other computer equipment and personal items - doesn't know what he has."

Well, duh, not now! Why is it that these morons have to make such statements? Anyway, just in case nobody knew, there is a DoD Instruction, which translates to a service regulation to a unit regulation on just about every conceivable subject, to include computer/info security. So the questions is; do we hang’em by the balls, or let the aggrieved service member take 10 whacks with a hard drive on the offending numb nut?

that ltc. should be reduced to private and go to jail for about 10 years then maybe it would get some brains but typical of females in that much rank in the army .

A bit sexist isn’t it? By the way, have worked for some excellent female officers and worked with some outstanding female NCOs. Quite an improvement over some chucklehead knuckle dragging old school NCO or officer who lived for the "good old days"! Ya, the old days of segregation, blood stripes, "the good old boy" networks, intolerance, ignorance and supposed "superiority" because an individual was an NCO. You haven't come a long way, have you? Have a good day!~! Wink Cool

The government has got to get a hold on this situation. Carry around data (classified, etc...) and leaving it unattended. I see people everyday carrying computer around on and off base. No one is checking. Yes you sign off and take training but it it too easy. No wonder top secrets, personnel data come up missing (?) What the hxxxxxx is our government thinking.

While I have to disagree with 34Army and his comments on females *insert boo here* I think I also have to disagree with your comments on the *old schoolers* as well. While I am fairly *new school* having come in back in 96, I have a deffinite old school mentality. I hate the way the service has become more kinder gentler. Gone are the days when you could drop an airman to do pushups for being a bonehead. Now you have to *counsel* him/her in private. The good ol boy system still exsists to an extent and while it makes things harder for some people but it also fosters a close knit society in the military.

I know this is kind of veering away from the topic... I think the bottom line here is that the officer needs to be treated like anyone else that comprimises Sensitive Information. If you need to have that info then take the proper security precautions. COMPLACENCY KILLS.

You probably have no idea what blood stripes are, do you? Old school, as in being ignorant and proud of it? Do it my way, or else (oh, and by the way, his way was wrong!) Obeying someone out of fear, which is not a particularly good leadership trait. Nor is belittling someone for no reason, other than a false sense of superiority.

Entering way “back” in 96 is not particularly being that old. I enlisted in 1968. There are some members who outdate me by decades. Old school is the same as “the good old days”. Yea, old, but not particularly good. Like; crappy pay, housing, equipment, treatment by civilian (oh yes, indeed. Not a NCO? Do not bother to apply for; credit card, mortgage, good housing on the economy, any deferred payment plan, and a lot of other things. GIs and Dogs, Off the Grass). Are you offended that you must treat your subordinates with dignity? Must counsel in privacy? Why, do you want to publicly humiliate your subordinates to feel good? Doubt that the “good old boy” networks foster a better close knit community. That only means the good old boys stick together to keep their imagined superiority together.

If they didn't know before I'll bet they know now. Mabe this bit of infomation was let out by design, if it was, it was a very non-smart thing to do. The trick is to be smarter than the thief, not aid them. Transporting that kind of info around in your P.O.V. is not very smart either.
