RE: http://www.military.com/NewsContent/0,13319,145379,00.html
Here we go again, a liberal magazine with a history of questionable stories that the informants wife works for. Apparently it is not restricted by those pesky little concepts like ethics and truth. The military has clearly demonstrated that it can and will punish its own for violations yet this rag finds it necessary to publish unsubstantiated lies. In addition to being ashamed the publisher and company that owns it needs to be held accountable, as does the talkative PFC. This message has been edited. Last edited by: adminnco1, |

While credibility is certainly in question now, it is foolish to think that the soldier's account of events in the middle east simply did not happen.
I'd like to see more investigation into the allegations. |

Beauchamp admits he lied, his buddies said he lied and of course, the "magazine" sticks with the story, yeah, there's some really integrity huh?!

Why do people think that an anonymous writer has any credibility? If they're going to speak out, they should have the courage of their convictions & give their name. The fact that this young man had his statements refuted by men of his own unit should be enough to discount the articles. There will be people who will believe any vile thing about our troops without any verification. They are the losersin any section of the population.OUr men are human & humans make mistakes. But the egregious ones named by this private,I'll never give any credence to.

Well from my perspective the New Republic Magazine is not refuting the story because they view the recantation by the soldier to be coerced by the Army and they are not allowed to talk to the soldier directly anymore.
You'll notice in the article the AP can't talk directly to the author either. Yet a Army SFC can conduct an interview publicly via Email that cast doubt on the author?......the lack of a Magazine recantation is the Army's fault for the way they are handling it, IMO. On the other hand, IF any of this was true.... Having a uniformed soldier running off and saying those things to the press without even attempting to address them within the CoC first is something that this soldier SHOULD be punished for. It's a load of crap to think the press was his only option and in this case failure to use the CoC (for no reason) is a discipline problem that might well cost people their lives with retribution killings. So the Army should throw the book at him even if it is true. |

The environment of war causes people to do and say things they would not say or do under normal circumstances. Most of us reverted to more social behavior when we returned to the land of the ' big PX '.
You can catch glimpses of this experience in our posts. Some show a residue of reactive behaviors from war. Some pretend having been there. It is better to not have wars, I assure you. PEACE ! |

Journalism and journalists are a joke. I laugh when I hear Independent Reporting. Give me a break. How can anyone help but put their views and biases into something? Just like CBS when they found that the info on Bush's Guard Service was false, they chose to run with it anyway. And they all wonder why I only watch Fox News. I know it is right slanted, but at least they present both sides unlike the alphabet networks.

If a lie: this soldier is in need of serious "growing up".
If true: these stories don't need to be shared. |

In the note, the magazine said the incident with the disfigured woman took place in Kuwait, not Iraq. The magazine also said the Army took away Beauchamp's mobile phone and his computer and he "is currently unable to speak to even his family.

Credited because the allegations fit their pre-conceived view of our military and, most importantly, their political agenda. |

credited because his wife works for the rag...no conflict of interest there... |

It is the typical Liberal-Progressive appraoch to any issue, create fabrication out of whole cloth on the subject. Once the truth is exposed contiue to lie and do the usual Liberal three step dance (not two step, they have no rythm or honor for that matter) the truth once exposed. This guy is nothing more than a Micheal Moore in uniform and should be ignored and avoided by his unit members, so he can live a nothingness existence most Liberal's lives exist of - lies, half trues and delusion stop from the far left.

you know it's funny - all of this hoopla over something that may or may not have happend, that the location might or might not be right, and the name of the person with the article may or may not be right..... gotta love it from any side you look at it.
while most of the actions are dispicable, that may or may not have happend, many of us have either done or witnessed. now, agreed it really didn't need to be published, but it is a right we all enjoy to "express ourselves" freely in this country. as for the "investigation," well, considering the actions - does anyone REALLY think anyone would admit to such actions???? especially when you think the punishment would be more than a simple "slap on the wrist??" then you look at Liberal vs. Conservative in anything - get real, it's all a load of B.S. oh, and for those who are "upset" at the idea of Beauchamp not writing the article's under his real name - what about your "name" here??????????????????? |

Okay here goes, I'm going to very honest here.
How many times have you seen or heard a bunch of kids making fun of a disable person here in the states? And don't say you haven't. It happens period. So I'm inclined to believe that part. Running over the dog(s), Very well could be true, but whats the impact? Zero, seen it even in peace time. Seen it with civilians as well. The rest is questionable...and would have to be proven. This kid is just out to make a name for himself and taking every little thing that he can to do it with. Plus to make the Army "Look" bad. I sure hope he leaves at the end of his time, he is not needed in the service. And when the civilian sector learns this, they won't hire him for fear of him making up stuff about their company. He has made a very deep hole for himself..I hope he can swim. Now as far as punishment..if it falls under UCMJ, then give it to him. |

While his stories may be based on truth, exagerations or flat out fabrication, one thing about the article stood out to me. The Army has taken away his cell phone and computer and has cut off all lines of communication to and from him. OPSEC? I doubt it. During my 20 years of service OPSEC was used more as a tool to shut soldiers up than as a security tool. The military may be trying to do another public relations cover-up.

The Reason I Won't Quit |
IMO:
This guy is a sensationalist! Looking for money and fame, why else would he give his name up? convientant that he married the reporter or what ever she is as well. "The Weekly Standard said Beauchamp signed a sworn statement admitting all three articles were exaggerations and falsehoods. " How would they know this if they had not seen it? Plus many from his unit said these things didn't happen. "...but the magazine said on its Web site that it has conducted its own investigation and stands by Beauchamp's work. " Please, anything to save face I guess. I don't doubt, I'm not stupid, for a second that things go on over there that we just don't need to know about. But come on if a person is going to report it then they should be truethful and factual. |

If a tree falls in a forest and lands on a politician, even if you can't hear the tree or the screams, I'll bet you'd at least hear the applause. Paul Tindale |
You should try listening to "Counter Spin". This show breaks down important news stories and dissects what has and what has not been said. I realize that most here would go into a total aplitic fit, but an open mind is refreshing. |

Come on how many of you had a person in your unit that lied about everything or to make themselves look good and important. I've seen E-1 to 0-7's pull stunts like this. Even when confronted with the facts they lied, they tried to stick to the story.
