RE: http://www.military.com/NewsContent/0,13319,143979,00.html The Taliban may want to think twice about executing Korean hostages. To do so will surely incur the wrath of the S. Korean government and people, and could initiate a large scale incursion by the Korean military into Afghanistan. If that were to happen, I pity the poor Taliban, for they would not be facing ineffectual US or NATO troops. S. Korea has one the most professional and formidable military in the world. They are extremely well trained, highly motivated and results oriented. The Koreans would not be encumbered by the inept political and military leadership that inhibits the US military in both Afghanistan and Iraq. Maybe we could send observers to watch the Koreans in action - if our Generals are not too arrogant, they might learn how make war.

I saw them fight in Vietnam. Their's was a superb, disciplined fighting force. The VC and NVA feared the Koreans above all others. I also served 6 years in Korea in the US Army, and witnessed their training. The ROK Army and ROK Marine Corps are considered among the best in the world. Our troops in Korea serve as a trip wire in event of an invasion from the north. US troops are being pulled off the DMZ and relocated in the Pyeongtaek area, some 60+ miles south of the DMZ. We are in Korea more for political reasons and self-interest than for the protection of Koreans.
