War Support Waning
http://www.military.com/NewsContent/0,13319,142665,00.html So, it took 5 months for Mil.Com readers (among THE most Conservative) to go from 60% FOR continuing the surge, to 60% wanting to see the war in IRAQ end, now. Not highly scientific, but surely it points to a stark contrast in the mindset of Mil.Co members and readers, to say the LEAST. In fact, I was quite surprised to see that result. Since we all know what the general population at large thinks (by 70%), this does not bode well for our current President, no matter what Tony Snow says, and we should all prepare ourselves to welcome home our troops in 2008with the Bands and Parades they have so far NOT seen, as patriotic men and women who did their level best to carry out their orders and win some sort of Peace. They did it proudly, and Honorably. If they see both sides of the aisle welcoming them home, banned together as Americans who support them and their sacrifices? Can't be anything but good, and MUCH easier for them to make the adjustment back into being a citizen. So now that it is clear we will be bringing them home within a year (or two) at most... then perhaps we can start planning for their return, together. We can all then turn our attention to rebuilding and preparing for whatever comes next, because we all know something will come... eventually. Now is the time to re-evaluate the state of our Armed Forces, our long term goals as a nation of free people, and a PLAN, for Peace in the Middle East. |

Hey leeky, you got famous, soon you could put yourself in line with Paris Hilton
And WG, were did you read that "now that is clear", did I miss something ?
The same planing and welcome like after Vietnam ? A poll gives not more than the mood to a certain case at a certain time, to base military actions upon mood is not a very bright idea. |

Sorry I didn't catch this one sooner, but as far as Iraq, Afghanistan and the 'War on Terror' goes, we have only one problem, the politicians controlling the military.
When they get up on their soapbox spouting off how we should retreat, again, it doesn't exactly instill faith in the troops under fire. If we really are serious about winning this thing, take the politicos out of the loop. Has any one ever considered the fact that a 'Department of Defense' has NEVER won a war? Go back to a War Department and maybe we can save some lives from here on. So, when the body count comes back this week, don't blame the officers in the field, put the blame where it belongs, on Capitol Hill. The troops need to be able to operate without the ties that bind, within certain constraints, yes, but not as restrictive they are now. The troops have my backing, however I am seriously concerned about having politicians degrading our troops and our country at every chance. Pull out, yes, after the job is done, not before. |

I wonder if this Military.Com polling has safegurads to prevent people from voting more than once...
As far as polls in general go...they are designed to provide the desired results of the agency requesting the poll...a handfull of people selected from specific demographic areas to provide the poller with the results they want... Basically it's all a crock... I have talked to a large number of troops coming back...going over for a 2nd or 3rd time...family members...and I get the same story...we need to be there and we are making significant progress which is not being represented, shown, or voiced here in the states...they all say don't believe what you hear and read in the news... Interesting how the people directly involved have a diametrically opposed opinion as those that aren't involved... |

I wonder if 60% of you would like to bring the war home? We all know that leaving now would only embolden the terrorists more.
This is an example of the unpatriotic attitude coming over our country: The night before we went on vacation, June 25, someone stole our flag from our front porch. In our hurry to get on the road, we didn't notice it was gone. I'm not just flying the flag to be patriotic, I'm flying it in honor of my friends who are still in service and possibly in harms way. It hurt knowing that instead of my flag flying proudly on the 4th, it was probably dumped somewhere. I'm waiting for the police to recover it, but I'm fairly sure that won't happen. Rumor has it that the culprits were teenage girls. Thankless ingrates. I'm glad my daughters have more sense than to disrespect others property. |

Amen, Our guys and gals did every single thing they were called on to do and more as usual. It is just to bad they did not have a President and Vice President that were worthy of them. As much as I liked John McCain before he began supporting everything Bush you gotta admit that just because he was a POW for so long, the guy knew nothing about combat from a Grunts point of view. He did his fighting from the air and that is a whole different ball game. He Bush and Cheney should have stuck to what they knew...
Bring our Military Home now, not another drop of American blood in Iraq. Haliburton and Big Oil have made enough blood money. Airborne!!! All the Way. |

I must be missing something?
The Poll numbers don't say 60% want them home now 42% did 41% not until we beat the insurgents. Doesn't sound like 60% The other 17% said sometime in '08 As the numbers read 58% want the insurgents beat but at the same time like to see our troops back next year. I think Polls are a misleading way to change policy and dangerous when it has an effect on national security and global stability. I believe Bush should rally public support through the Military Members and their family and friends to push back at the media and Congressional leaders who are undermining the whole effort |

Perhaps I'm missing something, but Good old Boy ex Pres. George Bush senior pulled out of Iraq and 9-11 happened. Now that we are over there (and I want our boys home) lets complete the job.
I was in Vietnam and we withdrew with our heads held high until we got home, no parades no acknowledgement, then ever other vet has PTSD so its no wonder the media deplicts us as distrubed VETS. I hate the fact the President put us in harms way to begin with. I could tell you about the corruption of Government but thats another time. We are there and need to finish. Pulling our troops would result in another downfall and we would have to do it all over again. Lets try to keep the war over there, I firmly beleive that a defeat of anykind would result in the message to the terriorist that the citizens of the US are weak and can be a target in their home land. I pray to God to stop this fighting so our troops can come home but I pray that we are Victorious. |

Is that George Bush posting the "Leaving now will only embolden the Terrorists" What Hogwash... The terrorists were emboldened by the arrogance of George Bush and Dick Cheney who both will go down in history as the worst Administration ever.

I'm going to say it.
The 60% who voted for us to call it quits should be sent with BCL and get a taste of why we're doing this. If you don't support this mission, the homocidists will take this as a victory. Or... If we do pull out, we wait for those lil fawkers to get in the street and start shooting off celebratory fire and then bomb the fawk out of em. Or... We beat the people in this country who have become complacent about the head and shoulders and tell em to WAKE UP AND SMELL THE COFFEE! YOU WANT ANOTHER 9-11, put a "c" like Hilary Clinton in office and you'll have one. Gawlddamn democrats... Oh and if the Iraqi people don't start takin up arms, and defending themselves as we did in the early stages of our independence, well, then they all deserve what they get. We took our country with force, we became the #1 world power in under 200 years and then we had to bail our allies out of two world wars and numerous conflicts after that. I'm tired of the American people saying that "OH BUSH SUCKS AND THIS AND THAT!" My question to you is..."What would you have done?!?" |

I believe McCain just wanted to be President (so bad) and thought carry this administration's coat would do it? He apparently didn't realize practically ANYONE that's come within Career Ruining DISTANCE of these guys, you're toast. The VP even shot one of his best friends and went to bed and cooled out, only to have the poor victim with Buck Shot still in his but apologizing. They have the rhetoric, the look, the swagger, the attitude but they just DON't have it!!! Sound Bites and quick slogans ain't a way to run a country and it certainly isn't a way to wage a war. It's what 5YEARs later and they've been running across the country (sounding like Paul REVERE) "AQ is coming", "AQ is coming"... Just for the smiggen of hope that they'll get enough support to leave our troops to referee a Civil War that's already scheduled for so much overtime that the OWNERs are taking a vacation in the middle of it. If nothing else Conservatives, perhaps you should advocate for our troops to take a Vacation while the Iraq Govt takes one? or At least assign the troops to go with them, TO protect them from "Godzilla", I mean "AQ"!!! |

Actually, Bush-41 gathered an incredible and overwhelming coalition together and destroyed Saddam's army, almost killing every one of them. He said he would NOT go into Bahgdad from the start, and we didn't. He said the mission was to kick their asses OUT of Kuwait, and that's what we did. He was the only Republican President in modern history that I just MIGHT vote for again. He kept his word to US and to the Arab World, in Desert Storm. It was Bush-43 who decided to go back there, unprovoked, and with God himself as Co-Pilot. I do not see how anyone can blame Bush-41 for 9-11, or what we have done since. |

AMS1tinksworld No there are no safeguards someone can vote as many times as the want. The idea that this poll is anything more than higwash is a real joke. Why it is getting so much attention is beyond me. |

I did 20yrs in the Army, including Desert Storm, Provide Comfort, (for 4 months AFTER Desert Storm) and a tour in OIF-1. I have a 17yr old son who just completed his Delayed Entry paperwork for the Army last night, and is set to leave in April 08 for BT. I still say what I've said since the beginning of the war... Support the Troops!!! Bring them HOME!!! |

why put more resources (of everything) into a country that DIDN'T attack us? If you can't comprehend the gist of that no answer most (with similar views to mine, I believe) can give you will you even remotely accept? If our leaders would've convinced ENOUGH countries to assist with REAL resources (troops), we wouldn't be in this mess. If you can't convince others, you're not going to effectively lead. I don't care how Conservative you are, how much you pray, how moral you are, how fiscally responsible, what school you attended, no matter how many people that ALREADY agree with you keep telling you how GREAT you are, inspite of how much you dislike your detractors... You don't convince anyone, you're in essence ALONE. Lastly, if THEM following us here is such an issue? Why is the Border open like a 7/11?????? They don't have to follow, they can meet us at the Rio Grande in Texas. |
