I can not believe that the Joint Chiefs would increase troop strength now except for extreme political pressure. Common sense dictates it is time to disengage from the Iraq Civil War. |

I would hate to see you people as generals. You do what you must for VICTORY, not Bush Hate like you are doing on this forum. Iraq has the least amount of casualties then any war in our short history. Look at the Chechen War with Russia, oh never not in the media's agenda. Cogress doesnt run the country, nor the military. But it thinks the President answers to them. Guess again

The military has several contingencies ready for EVERY possibility, ALL the time. They review and fine tune them constantly. They MUST be ready for anything, even on short notice, because the logistics is so complex, no matter which course is chosen. |

I like the fact that has been obviously missed by a few posting here...
"We're (doing) the kind of thinking that we need to do and be prepared for whatever it's going to look like two months from now," he said in an interview with two reporters traveling overnight with him from Washington aboard an Air Force C-17 cargo jet. "That way, if we need to plus up or come down" in numbers of troops in Iraq, then the details will have been studied and the military services will be in position to carry out whatever policy Bush chooses, Pace said. THEY ARE PLANNING... That is what the JCoS are supposed to do... be able to give course of action analysis and give the President choices and not have the military chasing it's collective tail when he says "JUMP!" sheesh..... |

If Pace is the face of incompetent, then Dear God, please give us more incompetent military leaders.
Harry Reid is an idiot. |

It is about time we started getting the number of troops to Iraq needed to win this thing. Now that Rumsfeld is gone, the generals can ask for more troops without having to worry about a forced resignation. I hope the generals ask for enough troops to kick Al Qaeda and any other foes butts into Iran where they belong.

Better get Surge 2 going before Surge 1 officially fails. Oh and your 15 month tour has just been extended to 18 months.
So suck it up, tough it out, and do the best you can and hopefully you’ll survive the Bush/Cheney Administrations FAILED war of CHOICE. This message has been edited. Last edited by: RetiredSailor1, |

If you care to call "planning" like this:
Hmm .... We had Plan A - that didnt work We propose Plan B with X resources - that sorta working but we screwed ourselves saying it'll work by the Fall. Now we'll go to Plan C just throw more resources at Plan B in the hopes it works faster.

No, BUT it sure must SUCK to be one of Our Troops serving under the Bush/Cheney Administration. I pray they all survive until we can get a Democrat in the White House and stop this madness or the Democrat Congress will pull the money on this FAILED war of CHOICE. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k4kTnP5VJ1k |

I understand the need to plan for a possible troop increase. Why is it news though? The military plans for damn near everything. This should not be news when a few days ago the Iraqi prime minister pretty much said you all can leave we got this. I say if they got it let them have it.
What I propose isn’t a full withdraw from the middle east. We can pull back to Saudi and Kuwait and watch the country crumble. Then we can go back in and do what we should have done 5 years ago and let the leash off the military and let it do what it does best....Blow stuff up and kill people!!!! |

You know... I have to say that I am sick and tired of listening to people whine and cry about us staying in Iraq or their tour getting extended or "i've been to iraq this many times so i shouldn't have to go back!".....
My husband was supposed to be home in March... then April... then may... then June... get the pattern? You don't see me *****ing about it and I'll tell you why. Growing up in a Marine Corps family, I was taught what a real soldier is and does. My father was a real soldier until the day he died... he was a Marine. A real soldier understands that it is his DUTY to serve his country wherever and for however long his CinC says he is to serve. Does it suck being away from your family, your wife, your kids.. hell yes it sucks! BUT you signed the papers knowing full well that you could be called to serve in a war. It's the freaking MILITARY for godsakes. Families of soldiers should also understand their soldier's duty, and they should take HONOR in the fact that their soldier has enough COURAGE to serve his country. Soldiers are trained to do what they are told, no questions asked. If the Commanding Officers of this military determine that it is in the best interest of Iraq for us to send more, then so be it. They get paid to do a job and I trust that they, being Generals, know better than I do about war. You people are putting politics where it doesn't belong. ALL politics aside, we started something in Iraq, and we should damn well finish it. The MISSION has to be completed. What that mission is, I'll be honest, I'm not quite sure, but it's not for me to know. I am not a soldier, I am a soldier's wife and whenever he tells me that he can't come home yet because his mission isn't completed, I nod my head and say I understand; even if I don't. America needs to grow a thicker skin, stop playing politics, and support our troops. Regardless of what political party you are affiliated with, whether you think Bush is the Anti-Christ or if you think he's a God-send... support our troops. You don't have to support the war... our men and women in uniform need our support so that they can do their duty and come home. God Bless our Troops and keep them safe! |

Define "Victory". Is that a stable democratic Iraq? The eliminiation of foriegn fighters? Elimination of sectarian violence? Are these aims possible?
No, you're wrong. Look at the Spanish-American War, (3,289 U.S. dead (432 from combat)) or the First Gulf War. BTW, the first Gulf War cost about $9 Billion. We're pissing $12 Billion a month in that Shithole.
Who gives a **** about that? Were any Americans over there?
Here's some news for you - we're in a representative democracy, not a dictatorship. |

Correct! We are.... except for when it comes to final decisions about military operations. Congress and the Senate have VERY little input as to what happens with the military. The only thing they can control is money. Sorry to bust your bubble, but when push comes to shove, the President has the final word. You know that little red button they always talk about? Well, The Pres gives the order to push it, not Congress. |
