talk about old news..he was awarded the Medal of Honor....

now.. how about Sergeant Peralta.... when does he get HIS recognition... he died November 15 2004... jumped on a grenade to save his team...

is it because he was a mexican immigrant?

is there some reason he has to wait while the white guy gets it?

The last two statements were and are out of line, and inappropriate for this topic.

i know it is inapropiate... but it is amazing how HIS story has not been told except on History (en espanol)

this brave marine got his green card JUST so he could be A Marine. we have heard abiout the two seals and the Engineer.. but no one..and i mean NOONE talks about the immigrant.

i WANT to sting his story into people.

his medal has been waiting since 2004... this seal was killed last year (in september) and EVERYONE told his story on CNN, On MSNBC...

i find that he is being forgotten....

I'd rather be knitting.

Then post your own thread about it, write about it. Sing the song of the unsung- you'll find a choir backing you up soon, God willing.

Sweetsuds, that was rude.
You're getting close to walking on the thin ice, if you can't resist putting in a sly dig then choose a different topic.

After reading elesso's post again, I retract my comment. I didn't really grasp the words.
My apologies.

i really want to post about SGT Peralta. but i really need to get in a frame of mind that allows me to be "impartial.

i have my suspicions, but no proof. all i KNOW is that he did EXACTLY whr Monsoor did, in fromt of his WHOLE team, with press present, and nothing yyet.

iIS there (in your opinion) any way i can post it without starting a riot?

No offense, but it isn't old news. His mother actually got the award from the President's hands yesterday. http://www.transworldnews.com/NewsStory.aspx?id=42615&cat=14

If you want to complain about something, complain about the timing of the ceremony, the same morning as General Petraeus and Ambassador Crocker were preparing to testify. Cool

In my opinion, there is no room for polemics in that thread but only respect and admiration for the ultimate sacrifice of that brave soldier.

Elesso: From an article back in January....
quote:

Rosa Peralta, his mother, received a call just before Christmas from an assistant secretary of the Navy saying the recommendation had been approved by the Pentagon, and needs the president's final OK, a family representative said.

"Based on what he told her, which is what she told me, it's already passed the military chain of command," said California lawyer George Sabga, a retired Marine who acts as a go-between for the family.

Don't these things take time?

It has nothing to do with the fact that he's hispanic. Not only does it take time, but those that go over these recommendations have to look at every detail of what happened, read statements from witnesses, post battle reports, medical records, etc etc. There may have been a snag with a detail, or they needed more witness statements, hell it could even be that his name was only submitted once and wasn't pushed as hard as some of the other names. It is possible, however, (this is IMO) that the fact that he was naturalized during service may have played a part in the "delay", they may be looking at when he became a citizen and so on.

sorry.. i never said "hispanics"

i said "mexican immigrant".. to issue a MOH to an Immigrant, one would have to lend credence that not all illegals (because He was illegal) are pieces of feces. that some really do want to do what is right, and do love their adopted country.

this man got his green card, and joined the Marine corps the very NEXT day...

Sounds like it was a pretty racist post to me, WHITE GUY, c'mon that was racist...
I suppose since if you are a caucasian you don't have feelings or a culture and can be made fun of...
The statement implied racism from start to finish, if he had left out the part of "WHITE GUY", I would have agreed too...

Elesso,

I am also an immigrant, and I appreciate the contributions of all of our military men and women and honor the sacrifice of men like PO2 Monsoor and Sgt. Peralta.

I remember when I took my oath of citizenship my best friend from High School and her family came with my family and I.

Her Dad said something to us after the ceremony that to this day means everything to me.

He simply Welcomed us to the family. Not his family - the American Family.

Whether we agree or disagree with this war, fuss or fight as we have done (myself included) over this war and other issues. We are above all family.

When individual such as Sgt. Peralta and PO2 Monsoor die in service to our country as so many have. It is not a loss to our country alone, it is a loss to our family more importantly.

The day they died you and I and all of us here lost two brothers as we have lost many brothers and sisters.

I did not know either one of them, in truth I can honestly say I have been more fortunate than most in that I have not personally known any of the casualities, though a young man from a unit that I helped establish many years ago did die in action.

But in truth, if you have served you know them and whether you have ever been in the military or not they are a part of our great big extended family that this nation is.

God Bless them and keep them safely in His loving arms, and hold their families in this time.

Frisco
